MIND BLOWING Facts About Our Sleep Habits with Dr. Felice Gersh via - @NaomiWhittel

The Real Skinny on Fat is a 9-part documentary series that uncovers the truth about FAT and how it affects your health, your weight, and your aging.

In the following video, I sit down with the lovely and brilliant, Dr. Felice Gersh. Dr. Gersh is a Board Certified OB/GYN currently working with the Integrative Medical Group of Irvine, California. She is also fellowship trained in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine. As she says “from the beginning of my career, my approach to medicine has been inclusive, which is why I have always incorporated treatments rarely found within the confines of conventional American medicine.”    This is one of two times I have had the pleasure of sitting with Dr. Gersh. I find it endlessly fascinating and truly inspiring to listen to her vast wealth of knowledge. She is such a pleasure to talk to and possesses an amazing mind.

In the following talk, Dr. Gersh covers a LOT of ground related to general health and wellness, with information that all falls under the umbrella of our circadian rhythm and its importance in almost every aspect of our lives.
Many of us may refer to our “body clocks” as simply getting a good night’s sleep - early to bed, early to rise, lest we wake up sleepy and groggy. Well, let me tell you, brain fog is the least of our worries! The truth and facts surrounding our circadian rhythm, and the importance of quality sleep at the right time, is at once absolutely shocking and fascinating. Our sleep patterns really do have a domino effect on almost every organ in our bodies. It affects our minds and mental health, our emotions, and so much
more.

Dr. Gersh covers many topics in this talk, including hormones, fasting, autophagy, weight loss, disease prevention, cognitive issues, diet and nutrition, eating times, insulin, sugar, microbiomes, anti-aging, even P.M.S. and its relation to circadian dysfunction. There is a wealth of information here that I hope will motivate you to make small changes in your lifestyle that will yield big health rewards.
So, the next time you find yourself sitting in bed with your laptop at 2 a.m., and guzzling coffee just to function the following morning/afternoon, think twice and watch this interview. It may change your life in ways you couldn’t possibly imagine.  As the doctor herself so eloquently puts it, “it’s not just about our health, but also about our happiness.”   Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy this! Remember to subscribe to see upcoming videos with more high-profile and knowledgeable individuals, and be sure to go back and watch our earlier uploads too! I’m often asked, "Mary, what's your morning routine? What's your evening routine?" These questions come from my friends, coaching clients and audience members during live events. I determined years ago that establishing a bedtime routine helps me fall asleep more easily, as well as supports me in feeling grateful, happier and more fulfilled throughout the day. And, it's easier than you might think! Incorporating these five practices into my evening has made a huge difference in every area of my life. By sharing them, my hope is that maybe they will for you, too. 1) I ask myself, “Who do I want to be today?” 2) I practice gratitude. 3) I review my day. 4) I use the “pruning shears of revision.” 5) I remind myself that there's a power in me that's greater than anything that comes my way.
